Rust formation on the metal parts of the kamado such as the base, hinge and tyres of the kamado is almost impossible to prevent if it is left outside all year round. Even if the kamado is dry, for example under a veranda, and the cover is used, condensation will still form on the sheet metal due to temperature differences.
Maintenance to prevent rust:
You can prevent this, though. Spray metal parts such as the undercarriage, tyres and hinge with WD40 to make them more resistant to weather conditions such as rain and frost. To remove rust, you can gently removing the rusty spots with a very fine sandpaper or scouring pad and then apply the WD40 tip.
