Light it Up!

For unboxing and assembling, check out our instruction video here.

First time use:

The Bastard is a kamado grill made of high-quality cordorite ceramic. The ceramic has to get used to the high temperatures. We recommend that you do not heat your Bastard higher to 200 degrees Celsius the first three times.

Also make sure that you let the temperature rise as slowly as possible, especially if the weather is cold and/or humid. This allows the ceramic to take effect and prevents cracks and/or cracking of the ceramic.

To slowly increase the temperature for the first 3x, start with the top and bottom vents that are only slightly open. You can slowly open this a little further, to let the temperature rise. So be patient, but then you can go wild with the Bastard!

Charcoal:

The Bastard is a ceramic barbecue and it is always fired on charcoal and never on traditional briquettes. Coconut briquettes are very suitable for the Bastard. Use good quality charcoal with large pieces, so that the Bastard does not suffocate. Fill it up to the first ring and no further.

To light:

Preferably light the charcoal with a lighter, such as the 'One Minute Lighter'. You can also use firelighters, but only if they are made of natural material. Never use chemical firelighters or spirits!
